Water Polo Splits On First Day Of Bucknell Invite
LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Marist water polo team split a pair of games Saturday at the Bucknell Invite, defeating Brown 6-5 before falling to #10 Princeton 13-6. Seven different Red Foxes scored over the two games.
In the first game against Brown, who defeated Marist (3-4) twice last season, Shelby Rinker (Lansdale, Pa.) scored 28 seconds into the fourth quarter to break a 5-5 tie and the Red Foxes held off the Brown Bears the rest of the way.
Alison Hamby (Sacramento, Calif.) scored two goals and added an assists, one of three players with three points. Rinker also added two assists and freshman Brooke Else (Lansdale, Pa.) scored a goal and assisted on two others. Anna-Lena Hathaway (Pasadena, Calif.) and Hannah Levien (Davis, Calif.) both added a goal. Rebecca Thomas (Cape Town, South Africa) made 12 saves in goal, tying her season high, and added a steal.
Against Princeton in the second game, freshman Ellie Hoffman (Pasadena, Calif.) scored three goals to pace the offense. Jessica Hamby (Sacramento, Calif.), Levien and Hathaway all added goals as well.
Marist wraps up play at the Bucknell Invite tomorrow, taking on George Washington at 11:30 a.m. and the host Bisons at 3 p.m.
