EDISON, N.J. - The Marist women's lacrosse team was chosen to finish third in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference according to the preseason coaches' poll that was released on Wednesday.  Coming off of an appearance in the 2012 MAAC Tournament, the Red Foxes earned 33 points in the poll. Defending MAAC Champion Canisius was voted first with 44 points, while Fairfield finished close behind with 42.

Following Marist in the poll was Iona in fourth with 29 and Siena with 26. Manhattan and Niagara rounded out the poll with 13 and 9 points, respectively.

The Preseason All-MAAC team was also announced by the league.  The Red Foxes tied with Canisius for second-most representatives with three players named to the team. Senior Ashley Miller (Montville, N.J.), junior Jamie Romano (Kings Park, N.Y.) and sophomore Christine Astarita (Kennett Square, Pa.) were chosen to team from Marist.

Miller begins her final season as a Red Fox after a break-out junior campaign where she scored a career-high 29 goals. Honored with a spot on the All-MAAC Second Team, she notched four hat tricks in 2012. Through three seasons, Miller has recorded 43 goals and 9 assists for 52 career points.

A two-time All-MAAC honoree, Romano has been a dominant force for the Red Foxes in the midfield since day one. After finishing fourth on the team with 22 goals as a freshman, she elevated her play as a sophomore and notched a team-high 29. Besides scoring, Romano has been an asset to Marist on draw controls as she set the single-season record with 52 in 2012.

Astarita earned a spot on the Preseason All-MAAC team following an outstanding rookie debut last spring. As a freshman, she was honored with spots on the All-MAAC Second Team, as well as the All-Rookie Team. Astarita played in all 17 games for the Red Foxes, making 16 starts and causing the second-most turnovers on the team (15).

The Red Foxes begin their 2013 season next Saturday, February 16 with a road contest against Lafayette at 1 p.m.
