Senior Joana Sun and the Red Foxes were picked third in the MAAC Preseason Poll...

EDISON, N.J. - The Marist women's tennis team was chosen to finish third in the 2013 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference preseason poll, as it received 53 points from the head coaches of the MAAC women's tennis programs. The 2012 MAAC Champion, Fairfield was ranked first overall with 61 points.

In a tightly grouped top three, Loyola and Marist follow Fairfield with 54 and 53 points, respectively. The middle three are closely ranked as well as, Niagara (33), Saint Peter's (31) and Siena (29) are picked fourth, fifth and sixth. Manhattan (19) and Rider (8) round out the poll.

Seventh-year head coach Roge Nesbitt brings a squad into competition this spring that will mix key veterans with promising newcomers. Three-time All-MAAC First Team honoree Joana Sun (Mansfield, Mass.) and fellow senior Kelsey Raynor (Garden City, N.Y.), a two-time All-MAAC First Team honoree in her own right, will provide senior leadership both on and off the court for the Red Foxes. Junior tri-captain Marielle Campbell (Patterson, N.Y.) and sophomore Sabrina Tahir (Yonkers, N.Y.) complete Marist's veteran quartet, as seven freshmen joined the program in the fall. Kaye Eastman (Grand Rapids, Mich.), Nikki Rohan (Mountain Lakes, N.J.), Karlene Pang (Kaneohe, Hawaii) and Melissa Carlay (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) all found success in their first semester of competition as they won titles at the Marist Invitational.

The Red Foxes are in search of their fourth NCAA Tournament appearance in the seven years.

Marist opens its season on Friday, February 1 when it travels to take on the University of Albany in a non-conference match. The Marist-UAlbany matchup will be the first of 14 competitions for the Red Foxes this spring, as they will play six MAAC foes and eight non-conference opponents in hopes of culminating their season on the weekend of April 27 in West Windsor, N.J. at the MAAC Championships. The top four teams in the conference standings will meet up in the two-day competition.
