EDISON, N.J. - Emma O'Connor (Lynbrook, N.Y.) has been named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Co-Player of the Week, as announced by the conference on Monday. She shared the honor with Rider's MyNeshia McKenzie. It is the second consecutive week Marist has received a weekly award from the MAAC as freshman Sydney Coffey (New Hope, Minn.) was named the Rookie of the Week on Jan. 21.
In front of a national, ESPN3 audience, O'Connor put together a career performance Friday night in Marist's lone game last week at Manhattan. The junior forward scored a career high 20 points while tying her personal best with eight made field goals, shooting at an 80% clip for the night. She was 2-3 from three-point range, hitting both in an 11-2 run near the end of the first half that kick-started the Red Foxes' offense and gave them the lead for good. She added another six points and an assist while playing stout defense in Marist's deciding 23-4 run to start the second half, holding Manhattan to just two made field goals over a 10:30 span. O'Connor tied for the team lead by grabbing six rebounds and dishing out three assists while also making two steals on the defensive end.
It is the first career weekly award for O'Connor and fourth of the season for the Red Foxes. Coffey has twice earned Rookie of the Week honors and Leanne Ockenden (Syracuse, N.Y.) was named the Player of the Week back on Dec. 24.
Marist takes on Siena Monday night at 7 p.m. in McCann Arena. Fans can watch and listen to the game on the Red Fox Network as well as on the radio on WKIP 1450 AM - Poughkeepsie. Geoff Brault will be providing play-by-play alongside color analyst Kristy Nix. The pregame show will begin at 6:45.
