WEST POINT, N.Y. - On the second day of the Army Challenge, the Marist men's tennis team won a 4-3 decision over the host Black Knights. Overall, Marist won five singles' matches.
Dalen Klassen (St. Louis, Mo.) continued his winnings ways with a 6-2, 6-2 victory at the second singles' position. Joris Van Eck (Ospel, The Netherlands) won his second singles' match of the weekend with a 6-3, 6-1 decision at the fourth slot. Joseph Dube (Livonia, Mich.) slipped past his opponent with a 7-5, 6-4 win while Billy Bishop picked up his first win of the weekend by a 6-4, 6-3 score. Matteo Giudici (Parma, Italy) also won in the seventh position, beating his adversary in three sets, 6-4, 2-6, 6-4.
For Dube, it was his fifth straight singles' victory, improving to 5-0 on the spring season. Overall, he is 16-4 in singles' action on the single.
"We just played at Harvard, and now at this triangular meet, Dalen is definitely playing his best tennis in his tenure at Marist," said Head Coach Tim Smith. "It is really exciting to watch. In addition, Joseph Dube is 5-0 this spring and playing really well. We are looking forward to see if we can knock off Gardner Webb tomorrow."
The Red Foxes wrap up action in West Point with singles' play against Gardner Webb. Marist already leads 1-0 after taking the double's point on Friday.
