WEST POINT, N.Y. - The Marist men's tennis team began play at the Army Challenge Friday afternoon, playing UNC-Greensboro while taking on Gardner Webb in doubles. The Red Foxes went 5-5 on the day, collecting three wins in singles' action and two more wins in doubles' play.
Dalen Klassen (St. Louis, Mo.) won a tough three set match over his UNC-Greensboro opponent 7-5, 4-6, 7-6(5). Joris Van Eck (Ospel, The Netherlands) defeated his adversary 7-5, 6-2 and Joseph Dube (Livonia, Mich.) won in similar fashion, 7-5, 6-0.
In doubles, the pairing of Trym Nagelstad (Oslo, Norway) and Will Reznek (Toronto, Canada) won in a tiebreaker at the top slot, 8-7(5). Van Eck teamed with Matteo Giudici (Parma, Italy) for an 8-4 win at the third doubles' position.
The Red Foxes return to action Saturday with singles' and doubles' play against Army.
