BOSTON, Mass. - The Marist men's tennis team opened its spring portion of the 2012-13 season Friday afternoon at the Harvard Winter Invite. The Red Foxes opened the semester with three victories, two in singles action and one in doubles.
Dalen Klassen (St. Louis, Mo.) won both of his matches on Friday, defeating his singles' opponent from Boston College by a 7-5, 6-2 score. He also paired up with teammate Billy Bishop (Houston, Texas) for an 8-5 victory in doubles over a duo from Harvard.
Marist's other win in singles' play came from Joseph Dube (Livonia, Mich.) who also beat his foe out of Boston College in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4.
Even though they finished with a loss, Lorenzo Rossi (Lugano, Switzerland), Joris Van Eck (Ospel, The Netherlands) and Trym Nagelstad (Oslo, Norway) all forced their respectice singles' opponents to a third set.
"Last year we were not that competitive at this tournament," Marist Head Coach Tim Smith said. "This year our top six guys had success or won their matches with Klassen and Dube continuing their strong play from the fall. We are looking forward to the next two days of competition."
