BALTIMORE, Md. - The Marist men's basketball team suffered a 72-58 loss at Loyola on Thursday in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) game.
Red-shirt junior forward Anell Alexis (Hillsborough, N.J.) and junior center Adam Kemp (Sherrill, N.Y.) each scored a team-high 14 points. Kemp had a team-high nine rebounds, while Alexis hauled in six while making his first start of the season. Sophomore swingman Chavaughn Lewis (Queens, N.Y.) gave the Red Foxes three scorers in double digits with 12.
For Loyola, Dylan Cormier led all scorers with 19 points. Cormier shot 7-for-8 from the field and 2-for-2 on three-pointers while adding a game-high six assists. The Greyhounds had four double-digit scorers, as Erik Etherly had 14, Julius Brooks scored 12 and Anthony Winbush added 10.
Loyola shot .604 (29-for-48) from the field and .714 (5-for-7) from three-point range. The Greyhounds shot .667 (18-for-27) in the first half, in which they scored 43 points.
A Kemp layup one minute into the game accounted for the first points of the contest. However, Loyola answered with five straight points, and led the rest of the way. In the waning seconds of the first half, Loyola's Franz Rassman hit a shot that was originally counted as a two-pointer, but was corrected to a three-pointer after replay, which gave the Greyhounds a 12-point lead at the half. Marist got within nine points at 52-43 with 13 minutes remaining, but drew no closer.
Marist's loss was its eighth straight. The Red Foxes are now 4-14 overall and 1-6 in the MAAC, while Loyola improved to 13-6 overall and 5-2 in conference play.
