POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - With the Marist Swimming and Diving program seven meets into their season and getting back into the pool this weekend versus Southern Connecticut State after a six-week break from competition here's an opportunity to see where individual athletes rank among the nation's best. According to the statistics compiled on Collegeswimming.com, three Red Foxes from the men's and women's programs are ranked in the top third of the times in their respective events.

From the women's program, senior Kate Conard (East Setauket, N.Y.) is off to a great start in her final collegiate season as she is ranked amongst the upper 25 percent of the nation's best Division 1 swimmers in four events. She is ranked 148th (20.1%) in 1650-yd free, 213th (21.3%) in the 400-yd IM, 208th (22.9%) in the 1000-yd freestyle and 246th (24.6%) in the 500-yd freestyle. Her 1000- and 1650-yd percentages are divided out of 907 and 738 total registered times, respectively. Conard's 200-yd time of 2:04.06 in the backstroke places her 343rd, just outside the 33.3 percent threshold at 34.3.

Maddie Arciello (Missoula, Mont.), Bonnie Orr (Fresno, Calif.) and Erica Vitale (Sterling, Conn.) nearly joined Conard in the upper third of the NCAA rankings. Arciello's 23.79 effort in the 50-yd freestyle is 358th (35.8%), Orr's 10:33.22 in the 1000-yd free is 328th out of 907 times (36.1%), while Vitale's 4:31.18 in the 400-yd IM is number 366 (36.6%).

Sophomores Jason Ruddy (Lake Katrine, N.Y.) and John Spitzer (Fairport, N.Y.) represent the men's team with top times in IM, butterfly and sprint freestyle disciplines.

Ruddy is ranked 288thnd (28.8%) amongst 200-yd IM swimmers with a season-best time of 1:53.10 and 291st (33.3%) with a 200-yd butterfly time of 1:53.36. 999 Division 1 athletes are ranked in the IM, while 873 are listed for the butterfly. His 100-yd fly time of 50.83, just fell outside the top third in the nation at number 352 (35.2%).

Spitzer is ranked ever so slightly behind his classmate Ruddy with the 290th (29.0%) best time in the 50-yd freestyle at 20.96.

Junior Nick Spinella (Franklin Square, N.Y.) nearly joined the duo with his 377th (37.7%) ranked time of 51.72 in the 100-yd backstroke.

Both teams will be back in action this Saturday, Jan. 12 when they host the Southern Connecticut State Owls in a non-conference dual meet at the McCann Natatorium. The meet is slated to begin at 1 p.m.
