POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Marist men's basketball team will be home on Thursday, Jan. 10 in the first men's MAAC game of the 2013 calendar year in McCann Arena. The Red Foxes (4-11, 1-3 MAAC) will face-off with the Iona Gaels (9-6, 3-1 MAAC) in a 7 p.m. contest.

The Red Foxes are 15-37 all-time versus the Gaels.

Red Foxes & Gaels, March 3, 2012 ...
Marist saw its season come to an end with an 87-63 loss to Iona in the quarterfinal round of the 2012 MAAC Men's Basketball Championship at the MassMutual Center on Saturday, March 3.

Chavaughn Lewis led the Red Foxes with 25 points, while classmate Isaiah Morton had 17 points and four assists.

Marist got off to a quick start, as it jumped out to an 11-2 lead. Iona then answered with an 11-2 spurt of its own to tie the game at 13 apiece by the 12:48 mark.

The Red Foxes maintained a slim advantage for most of the first half, as Iona didn't grab its first lead until 6:11 left in the half at 25-23.

With 3:08 left in the first half a basket by Mike Glover put Iona up 30-29, and the Red Foxes never tied or took the lead again.

Marist shot .443 (27-for-61) from the field, .267 (4-for-15) from three and .625 (5-for-8) from the line. Iona shot .567 (34-for-60) from the field, including a blistering .690 (20-for-29) clip in the second half.

Last Time Out ... Jan. 5 at Canisius ...
Marist fell in a hard-fought contest at Canisius by a score of 73-64. Hot shooting by the Golden Griffins from three-point range was the deciding factor in the game as Canisius shot 43.5 (10-23) for the game.

With the score 27-22 and 3:51 left in the first half, Canisius would close the period on a 9-2 run to take a 12-point lead into the locker room at 36-24.

Coming out after the break, the Golden Griffins continued its hot shooting as Isaac Sosa netted four consecutive three-pointers to help the hosts go up 16, at 48-32.

Marist would rally with a 16-8 run, concluding with a Lewis three-pointer at 4:48.

With the score 65-60, the Red Foxes would take a five-point deficit under four minutes to play. Unfortunately, Canisius would hold on and eventually take the 73-64 victory.

Chavaughn Lewis led the Red Foxes with a game-high 24 points on 9-18 shooting from the field. He also added a team-high eight rebounds in 40 minutes of action. Devin Price backed up Lewis' output with 16 points.

In his first career start, freshman Phillip Lawrence contributed seven points on 3-4 shooting, while taking down three rebounds and assisting on three baskets in 28 minutes.

Scouting the Gaels ...

After an up-and-down start to their 2012-13 season, the Gaels have recently gotten hot winning six of their last eight games to bring their record to 9-6 and 3-1 in the MAAC.

With the mid-season addition of transfer David Laury to their active roster, the Gaels come into Thursday with a trio of scorers averaging over 15.5 points per game. Momo Jones leads the team and the MAAC with a 22.7 ppg and a 90.2 free throw conversation rate, while Sean Armand averages 18.1 points and a conference-leading 3.7 made three-pointers a game.

Of note, Iona returns just four players from last year's NCAA Tournament team.
