EDISON, N.J. - Senior Kate Conard (East Setauket, N.Y.), sophomore Kimberly Tobias (San Jose, Calif.) and sophomore Jacob Baker (Shavertown, Pa.) were recognized by the MAAC in the conference's weekly award announcement for their performances in the H20unds Invitational at Loyola this past weekend.
In Marist's final competition of the 2012 calendar year, the H20unds Invitational, Conard led the Red Foxes to victories in seven events, three of which were individual races and four in relays. Individually, the senior was dominating as she won the 500-yd freestyle with a time of 4:57.56, 8.13 seconds clear of second place and the 1650-yd freestyle at 17:00.09, over 42 seconds ahead of the field. In her performance of the meet, Conard set a school record in the 400-yd IM with a time of 4:25.84; smashing the old mark by 5.39 seconds. In relay action, Conard spearheaded Marist victories in the 400- and 800-yd freestyle and 200- and 400-yd medley races.
In women's diving action, Tobias cruised to a sweep of the boards versus competitors from Loyola and Iona. In the 1-meter board, the sophomore earned 245.70 points for a 26.75-point victory, while scoring 227.00 in her 3-meter board win.
On the men's side, Baker turned in a weekend of strong winning performances in Baltimore with a sweep of the boards. In 1-meter action, Baker earned a 43.5-point victory with a six dive total of 243.10 points. In a hotly-contested 3-meter competition, he held off teammate Josh Dodway by 2.25 points at 262.55 to 260.30.
These are the 11th, 12th and 13th weekly awards for the swimming and diving program through five weeks of nominations. Individually, these are the ninth career honors for both Conard and Tobias, while it is the first-ever weekly award for Baker.
The Red Foxes will be off from regular season competition for six weeks before hosting Southern Connecticut State in a home meet on Saturday, Jan. 12.
