NEW HAVEN, CONN. - The Marist men's tennis team finished the strong fall portion of its schedule Saturday afternoon with its deepest showing at the ITA Regional Tournament. The Red Foxes had four players competing in the singles Round of 64 as well as a doubles' pairing in the Round of 32.
Lorenzo Rossi (Lugano, Switzerland), Joris Van Eck (Ospel, The Netherlands), Dalen Klassen (St. Louis, Mo.) and Will Reznek (Toronto, Canada) all fell in straight sets, but failed to diminish the accomplishments by the Red Foxes over the weekend. After having a record eight singles and doubles players qualify for the tournament, Marist won nine singles matches as well as another victory in doubles, advancing five into the third day of the tournament, the most in Head Coach Tim Smith's 16-year tenure.
"I loved the way our team competed today," Marist Head Coach Tim Smith said. "This was a very good team building tournament for us in preparation for our spring season. Although we lost five matches, our guys really competed well."
The Red Foxes concluded their fall season with 68 total wins between singles and doubles. Marist will return to the courts in the spring, looking for its fourth straight undefeated Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) season.
