POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Marist basketball programs officially commenced the 2012-13 season Friday night with the annual Red/White scrimmage at McCann Arena. While statistics were unofficial, the women's team was led by Tori Jarosz (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) who had 30 points and seven rebounds. Manny Thomas (Brooklyn, N.Y.) had 18 points and five boards to lead the men's team.

Both teams played alternating periods of 10 minutes with running time. The men played four periods while the women added a fifth. The score was wiped clean after each period and players switched sides for substituting purposes. The final tally on the men's side had White defeating Red by a 74-64 score while Red beat White 72-57 for the women.

In the action on the women's side, Elizabeth Beynnon (Burlington, Vt.) and Leanne Ockenden (Syracuse, N.Y.) each had 17 points while Ockended also had a team-high eight rebounds. Freshman Madeline Blais (Exeter, N.H.) impressed the crowd in her first action in McCann Arena with 15 points, all on long three-pointers, and six rebounds. Kristina Danella (Manalapan, N.J.) had 12 points and six rebounds while Emma O'Connor (Lynbrook, N.Y.) was also in double digits with 10 points and added five boards. Natalie Gomez (Andover, Mass.) had a team-high seven assists.

The men's portion of the evening was full of entertaining transitional play and dunks. Chavaughn Lewis (Queen, N.Y.) followed up Thomas with 15 points while Devin Price (Inglewood, Calif.) had 14 points and five assists. Adam Kemp (Sherrill, N.Y.) was strong in the post, putting up 13 points. Jay Bowie (Tampa, Fla.) was also in double digits with 10 points while Isaiah Morton (Vineland, N.J.) had eight points and a team-high eight rebounds.

Both programs open their season in a home doubleheader on Friday, Nov. 9. The women will play host to Vermont at 6 p.m. in a contest that will be aired on ESPN3. The men will follow at 9 p.m. against Stony Brook. For the women, MAAC Preseason Awards Shows will also be hosted that day from McCann Arena. The Coaches' Preseason Poll will be announced along with the Preseason Player of the Year, and the Red Foxes will raise their MAAC Championship banner in a pregame ceremony.
