NEW HAVEN, CONN. - The Marist men's tennis team saw all four of singles' players, as well as one of their two competing doubles' pairs, advance to the third day of the ITA Regionals. Individuals were competing in the Round of 96 in singles' while doubles was playing in the Round of 64.
Joris Van Eck (Ospel, The Netherlands) and Dalen Klassen (St. Louis, Mo.) both won in straight sets over their opponents from Brown and NJIT, respectively. Each individual had to win two pre-qualifying matches on Thursday to advance into the tournament's main draw.
Lorenzo Rossi (Lugano, Switzerland), who did not have to compete on Thursday, easily defeated his adversary from Yale by a 6-1, 6-1 score. Will Reznek (Toronto, Canada), who had also earned a bye through pre-qualifying, came from behind to beat his opponent from Fairleigh Dickinson 3-6, 6-3, 6-2.
In doubles, the duo of Rossi and Van Eck advanced with an 8-4 victory over a pairing from Drexel.
"Five wins in the main draw is the most amount of players I have had advance in the ITA Tournament in my tenure at Marist," Marist Head Coach Tim Smith said. "I am very proud of the way these guys competed today, especially getting two wins over players from Ivy League programs."
Play continues on Saturday with the Round of 64 and Round of 32 in singles' action as well as the Round of 32 in doubles.
