NEW YORK, N.Y. - The Marist tennis team opened play at the Columbia Fall Classic Friday against some of the toughest competition in the northeast. Dalen Klassen (St. Louis, Mo.) and Joseph Dube (Livonia, Mich.) advanced to the quarterfinal round in their respective singles' flights.
Klassen, coming off of a flight championship two weekends ago at the USTA Invitational, beat his opponent from host Columbia by a 6-4, 3-6, 10-5 score in Flight "B".
Dube improved his fall record to 9-0 with a 7-6 (12-10), 7-6 (7-1) victory over his adversary from Fairfield to advance in Flight "C".
"Our doubles is still a project in motion but I was very pleased with the competiveness of all our singles," Marist Head Coach Tim Smith said.
Play continues on Saturday with back draw singles and doubles action as well as the quarterfinals and semifinals rounds in the singles' main draw. The Red Foxes will have four doubles pairs and six individuals competing in their respective back draws.
