Marist Swimming And Diving Announces Newcomers For 2012-13 Season
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Marist swimming and diving program under the direction of 37th year head coach Larry VanWagner and 22nd year associate head coach/diving head coach Melanie Bolstad announced the addition of nine newcomers for the upcoming 2012-13 season. The new additions to the program hail from New York, Connecticut and North Carolina.
Caleb Camp - Backstroke/IM, Chapel Hill, N.C./Carrboro: Camp joins the Red Foxes as a freshman out of Chapel Hill, N.C. A decorated interscholastic athlete, Camp holds three North Carolina state records, as he was a member of the 200- and 400-yd freestyle and 200-yd medley relay teams at Carrboro High School. Individually as a senior, he finished in a tie for the 2A North Carolina state title in the 100-yd backstroke. In club action, Camp swam for the Chapel Hill YMCA Sharks and qualified for national events on six occasions; the YMCA Long Course Nationals three times and the YMCA Short Course Nationals three times, as well.
Josh Dodway - Diving, Niskayuna, N.Y./Niskayuna: Dodway joins Coach Bolstad's diving squad after a strong high school and club career in the New York Capital Region. While diving at Niskayuna High School, Dodway set program records in both the 6- and 11-dive events. As a senior in 2011-12, he finished fifth in New York State in the 1-meter board. In recognition of his success, Dodway earned NISCA All-American status in 2012. He dove competitively with the AAU Flip and Rip club team.
Sean Sullivan - Breaststroke/IM, Huntington, N.Y./St. Anthony's/Miami (Ohio): A sophomore transfer, Sullivan returns to his New York roots after competing as a freshman at Miami of Ohio. While at Miami, he posted three times for the Red Hawks in 2012 MAC Championship competition; the 200-yd butterfly (1:55.22), the 400-yd IM (4:07.32) and the 1650-yd freestyle (16:30.00). As a high school competitor at St. Anthony's, Sullivan was a four-time NCSA Junior National finalist. Five times he was honored with All-State distinction and six times on the All-County team. As a senior, he served as a team captain. Sullivan graduated St. Anthony's with honors.

Alexandria Koukos - Freestyle, Cheshire, Conn./Cheshire: Koukos comes to Poughkeepsie from Cheshire, Conn. The 2011 Class L Champion in the 500-yd freestyle, Koukos has earned honors at three different levels during her career at Cheshire High. Beginning in her freshman year, she earned All Southern Connecticut Conference recognition four times, New Haven All-Area Team three times and All-State two times. Koukos served as Cheshire's captain. She swam as member of the Cheshire Y Sea Dog Swim Club and qualified for national events since the eighth grade.
Bethany Powhida - Backstroke/IM, Delmar, N.Y./Bethlehem: Powhida joins the Red Foxes after a strong high school career at Bethlehem High. Interscholastically, she was a two-time Section 2 Champion in the 500-yd freestyle, while earning the 200-yd crown once. The Section 2 MVP in 2010, Powhida was the Eagles' captain during her senior year. Five times, she competed at the New York State Youth Championships. For club swimming, she swam with the Delmar Dolfins where she left holding six program records.
Bridget Curley - Freestyle, Endwell, N.Y./Maine-Endwell: A strong performer throughout her time at Maine-Endwell High School, Curley earned All-Conference and All-Metro honors on multiple occasions, while swimming for the Spartans. She qualified and swam in New York State Championship 50- and 100-yd freestyle events during her junior and senior years. A captain her senior year; Curley was honored with the distinction of being named a New York State Scholar Athlete. In club action, she swam for the Union Aquatic Club.
Renata Diotalevi - Diving, Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand: Diotalevi joins Coach Bolstad's strong diving corps after a championship-winning career at Daniel Hand High School. Diving at the Southern Connecticut Conference Championship in 2011, Diotalevi earned the title with a final score of 339.45. She placed eighth at the Connecticut State Championships. Diotalevi served as the captain for the Daniel Hand squad as a senior. A dual-sport athlete, she also found success for Hand on the lacrosse field, as the Tigers won the 2010 SCC Championship and were runners-up in 2011. She capped her interscholastic career in the spring of 2012 with the honor of being named Daniel Hand's Scholar Athlete of the Year. Diotalevi dove in club competitions for Cardinal Diving.
Lauren Banzer - Breaststroke/IM, Bethpage, N.Y./Bethpage: Banzer joins the Red Foxes after swimming for Bethpage High School and the Bethpage Barracudas Swim Club. She recorded the fastest 100-yd breaststroke time for Bethpage High in 2011. Banzer qualified for and competed in the Nassau County Swimming Championships in the 100-yd breaststroke, 200-yd IM and 200-yd medley, and 400-yd freestyle relays. She swam in the B Finals for the 100-yd breaststroke in 2011. A strong student, Banzer was a member of the National Honor Society. She has chosen to major in Adolescent Education at Marist.
Olivia Correale - Freestyle, Staten Island, N.Y./St. John Villa Academy: As a senior, Correale swam to a fourth place finish in the CHSAA Girls' City Swimming Championship in the 50-yd freestyle and a fifth in the 100-yd freestyle. Correale was selected to serve as St. John Villa's captain during her senior season. She was honored with the JCC Honorable Mentsch*ion Youth Leadership Award in 2012 for her participation with the Richmond Aquatic Club. She has chosen to major in Fashion Design at Marist.The Red Foxes begin their 2012-13 season on Oct. 20 when they host Canisius in a 12 p.m. dual conference meet.
