BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Marist College men's cross country team used a tightly-packed top-5 team to post a strong showing at the Paul Short Run, held Friday on a soggy and slick 8,000-meter course at Lehigh University's Goodman Campus. The Red Foxes placed 20th out of 37 teams in the Gold Race, improving on their 2011 showing of 22nd place. The Red Foxes totaled 553 points, 35 better than the 2011 showing of 588 points.
Senior captain Arquimedes DelaCruz led Marist with an 88th place time of 25:21, just one second slower than his 2011 time. Junior captain Ken Walshak followed closely in 103rd place at 25:29, 36 seconds faster than 2011. Freshmen Ryan Colabella (25:33) and Johnny Lee (25:47) followed in 112th and 137th. Sophomore Mark Valentino rounded out the scoring in 163rd place at 25:56, nearly two minutes faster than his 2011 time. The Red Foxes' scoring runners' spread from 1-5 was a tightly packed 35 seconds.
Villanova, the 22nd ranked team in the country, was the winning team with 69 points. The meet boasted four nationally ranked Division 1 teams and 21 regionally ranked teams.
The Red Foxes return to action on Saturday, October 13, at the Princeton Invitational in Princeton, N.J.
