FLUSHING MEADOW, N.Y. - The Marist men's tennis team continued its hot start to the 2012-13 season as two of its members won their respective singles' flight championships on Sunday at the USTA Invitational at the site of the U.S. Open. The tournament featured 18 schools, five of which are ranked in the top 60 of the ITA rankings.
Joseph Dube (Livonia, Mich.) continued his perfect fall season with his second individual championship of the fall. He defeated his opponent from St. Johns on Sunday by a 6-1, 6-3 score to win the Flight "F" championship and move to 7-0 on the season.
Dalen Klassen (St. Louis, Mo.) won the Flight "E" title by beating the top-ranked player from Ivy League power Yale by a 6-2, 4-6, 6-4. His perfect 4-0 weekend improved his fall singles' record to 6-1.
"I was pleased to cap off the weekend with my Midwestern guys bringing home their flight championships," said Marist Head Coach Tim Smith.
The Red Foxes will play their first dual match of the season Wednesday, Sept. 26 at Connecticut.
