Volleyball Looks To End Skid This Weekend At Manhattan and Saint Peter’s

The Marist volleyball team hits the road this weekend for a pair of Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) matches at Manhattan and Saint Peter's. The Red Foxes (4-8), looking to snap a six-match losing streak, will take on the Jaspers on Saturday at 2 p.m. in Riverdale before heading to Jersey City on Sunday to face the Peacocks at 2 p.m.

Scouting the Opponents

Manhattan enters Saturday's match with a 5-8 overall record and are 0-2 in the MAAC after falling to Iona and Fairfield last weekend. They are coming off of a straight set, midweek victory over Lafayette on Wednesday. The Jaspers are led offensively by Mariana Furquim with 153 kills. Alexa Lamasona is the only other player in triple digits with 103 kills. Hollegn Henderson has a team-high 377 assists. Kelsey Huntoon leads the Jaspers with 245 digs and Furquim is second with 159. As a team, Manhattan is second in the MAAC with 17.82 digs per set. Lampasoona is tops on the team with 32 blocks, an average of .70 per set.    

Saint Peter's comes into the weekend at 1-13 overall and 0-2 in the MAAC under first year head coach Andrew Brown. This comes a year after the Peacocks finished the 2011 season at 0-31. Last weekend they fell to Fairfield and Iona, both in straight sets. Lauren Behrens leads the Peacocks with 121 kills while Laura Reinhart is also in triple digits with 104. Kristina Baehr has 319 assists. Jenny Pliska has the team-lead with 219 digs and Behrens is second with 132. Kassi Wirth leads the team with 27 total blocks, including 12 solo.

Marist in the MAAC/NCAA

A couple of individual Red Foxes are amongst the leaders in the MAAC in several statistical categories. Hanna Stoiberg (Thousand Oaks, Calif.) is third in service aces with an average of .37 per set. She is also eighth in the conference in hitting percentage, hitting at a .275 clip. Mackenzie Stephens (Holland, Mich.) fifth in that category with .291 hitting percentage after hitting .514 last weekend with 20 kills and only two attacking errors. She is atop the MAAC with 52 total blocks and an average of 1.27 blocks per set. Her block per set average ranks her 53rd in NCAA Division I.
