POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y - Michelle Fountain (Sayville, N.Y.), a May 2012 graduate of Marist College, was announced as a member of Head Coach Larry VanWagner's coaching staff on Wednesday. Beginning this fall, Fountain will serve as a Graduate Assistant, while continuing her education in Poughkeepsie.

A duel threat in both the pool and in the classroom, Fountain was honored as a 2012 CoSIDA/Capital One Academic All-American. An Education/Psychology major, she was the first Marist swimmer in school history to earn the distinguished recognition.

Fountain was also a stalwart in the pool for the Red Foxes. As a senior in 2012, she won her first-ever individual MAAC Championship in a hotly-contested 500-yd freestyle race with teammate Kate Conard. An important member of the relay teams, Fountain earned 10 team titles in her four trips to the MAAC Championships. Her 200-, 400- and 800-yd freestyle and 400-yd medley relay teams are etched atop the Marist record books with the best times in program history.

"We are extremely proud to have Michelle join our staff as the first-ever Marist alumni Graduate Assistant", says VanWagner. "She will provide a great role model to enhance the focus and desire of our student-athletes."
