EDISON, N.J. - Senior captain Hanna Stoiberg (Thousand Oaks, Calif.) of the Marist volleyball team has been named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Player of the Week for the second consecutive week to open the 2012 season. The honor, which was announced by the conference on Tuesday, reflects Stoiberg's performances this past weekend in the Volley in the Valley tournament.
Stoiberg continues to take home hardware this season as, in addition to her two MAAC Player of the Week honors, she was also named the Volley in the Valley Tournament MVP as wells as to the All-Tournament Team at the Hofstra Asics Invitational the weekend before. She finished this weekend with 34 kills, 73 assists, 14 digs, 13 blocks and a .370 hitting percentage, as the Red Foxes protected their home court by winning the Volley in the Valley championship. She was one dig shy of a triple-double in the opening match of the weekend against NJIT, finishing with 10 kills and 28 assists to go along with nine digs and three blocks. In Marist's second match of the day against Hartford, Stoiberg had team-highs with 13 kills, to go against one attacking error for a .462 hitting percentage and 22 assists. She also added two digs, two service aces and seven blocks, part of the Red Foxes' 17-block attack for the match. In the weekend finale to decide the championship, Stoiberg continued her high-level of play, finishing with 11 kills, to only three errors, and again was the team leader with 23 assists. She also contributed with one service ace, three digs and another three blocks.
This is the third career weekly award for Stoiberg, who also earned MAAC Offensive Player of the Week last September.
The Red Foxes (4-2) are back in action tomorrow, Wednesday, Sept. 5 with a home match versus Army. The match with the Black Knights will start at 7 p.m. at McCann Arena. The match will also be broadcast live on The Red Fox Network.
