EDISON, N.J. - In the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference's first player of the week awards announcement of the season, senior defender Chelsea Botta (East Longmeadow, Mass.) was named the conference's Offensive Player of the Week. She earned the honor, the first of her career, in recognition of her outstanding week of play.
In the Red Foxes' three games this opening week, the senior defender led the team with seven combined points on goals in three consecutive contests. Coming up from the defensive third either on free kicks or overlapping runs, the senior proved to be a weapon for Marist on its way to a 2-1 week. In the team's first game of the year versus Wagner, Botta's leaping and heading ability was on display as she assisted on an Amanda Epstein goal with a flicked header and netted the game-winner off of a high, Rycke Guiney free kick chip.
Prior to this season, Botta had only registered three goals and two assists total. Both her goal and point totals currently rank her first in the MAAC.
The Red Foxes will be back in action on Sunday, Sept. 2 with a road contest at Fordham. Kickoff for the matchup will be at 1 p.m.
