POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- The fourth-seeded Marist men's lacrosse team had its season come to an end on Friday night with an 11-9 loss to top-seeded Siena in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Tournament semifinal round at Tenney Stadium.

Evan Guarini (Long Valley, N.J.) and Aedan Herman (Stafford, Va.) scored two goals apiece for the Red Foxes, who also received three assists from junior Connor Rice (Penfield, N.Y.). Jim Marks (Camillus, N.Y.) and Brett Bernardo (Clifton Park, N.Y.) each had multi-point performances with a goal and an assist. Kevin Defranco (Shoreham, N.Y.) led the defense with four caused turnovers and four ground balls and Zach Badalucco (Brewster, N.Y.) had a team-high seven ground balls. Craig Goodermote (Holtsville, N.Y.) made 12 saves in net for the Red Foxes.

After Siena (11-4, 6-0 MAAC) scored the first goal of the game, Bobby Carpenter (Saratoga, N.Y.) responded for Marist to tie the score with 8:44 remaining in the opening period. Guarini scored his first of the game off an assist from Rice to give the Red Foxes the lead with 30 seconds remaining.

The Saints scored twice in six seconds early in the second quarter to regain the lead at 3-2, but Herman and Colin Joka (Conshohocken, Pa.) each tallied for Marist to take the lead back with 10:15 left in the first half.

With the score tied at four, Herman and Marks scored in the final five and a half minutes of the second period to give Marist a 6-4 lead at halftime.

The Red Foxes maintained the lead deep into the third quarter, but Siena scored 35 seconds apart late in the third quarter to put the Saints ahead 8-7 going into the final period. The Saints tacked on another goal within the first minute of the fourth quarter to take their first two-goal advantage at 10-8.

Jack Doherty (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) brought Marist within one at 9-8 with 11:25 left, but Siena would score twice more. A goal by Bernardo with 3:01 remaining was not quite enough as the Saints moved on to Sunday's championship game.
