Women’s Tennis Picked As Favorite In MAAC Preseason Poll
EDISON, N.J. - The Marist women's tennis team was chosen as the favorite in the 2012 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference preseason poll, as it received 60 points from the head coaches of the MAAC women's tennis programs. The 2011 MAAC Champion, Marist was ranked one point ahead of fellow finalist Fairfield, who received 59 points.
Following the Red Foxes and Stags in the poll were Loyola in third with 48 points and Siena with 34. Saint Peter's (31 points) and Manhattan (30) are closely grouped behind Siena in fifth and sixth. Niagara (17) and Rider (8) rounded out the poll.
Reigning MAAC Coach of the Year Roge Nesbitt brings back a veteran group of players led by All-MAAC singles selection Joana Sun (Gales Ferry, Conn.), as well, as All-MAAC double selections, Erin McCarthy (Salem, N.J.), Kelsey Raynor (Garden City, N.Y.) and Marielle Campbell (Patterson, N.Y.). The Red Foxes are in search of their fourth NCAA Tournament appearance in the past six seasons.
Marist opens its season on February 25 when they travel to take on MAAC foe Saint Peter's.
