Matt is entering his third season at Marist, and second as the Men's Head Coach.  After a very successful first season with the freshman team he was named the head varsity coach prior to the 2012-13 season.

Last year, Lavin led the Red Foxes to its 12th consecutive MAAC Championship and their strongest performance at ECAC's in years. Lavin was named the MAAC Coach of the Year in just his first season as the head coach.

Before arriving at Marist in the  fall of 2011, Matt coached at Gonzaga College High School in Washington, DC during the 2011-2012 season where his crews had considerable success.

Matt started rowing in 2002 for Ridgewood High School and then went on to row at Georgetown University. He graduated from Georgetown University in 2011 where he studied International Politics.
