JERSEY CITY, N.J. -- The Marist men's basketball team suffered a 58-57 loss at Saint Peter's in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) game on Thursday night at the Yanitelli Center.

The Red Foxes rallied from down five with 1:08 to play. With 8.5 seconds left and Saint Peter's leading 57-56, the Peacocks' Trevis Wyche went to the line for a one-and-one. Wyche hit the first and missed the second. After Marist junior forward Manny Thomas (Brooklyn, N.Y.) secured the rebound, junior guard T.J. Curry (Brooklyn, N.Y.) was fouled on his way to the basket with 2.5 seconds to go.

Curry hit his first free throw to make the score 58-57. He missed the second, and the rebound went to Marist senior forward Jay Bowie (Tampa, Fla.). Bowie was not able to convert on a contested jumper in the lane, and the Red Foxes were unable to get another chance before the clock hit zero.

Red-shirt freshman guard Khallid Hart (Newark, Del.) led four Red Foxes in double digits with 15 points. Bowie had a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Junior swingman Chavaughn Lewis (Queens, N.Y.) and senior center Adam Kemp (Sherrill, N.Y.) each scored 11 points. Lewis led the Red Foxes with five assists, and added four rebounds and two steals.

Marvin Dominique of Saint Peter's led all scorers with 23 points, and teammate Desi Washington added 18.

Marist got off to a fast start, as three-pointers by Bowie and Hart and two baskets by Kemp gave the Red Foxes a 10-3 lead. With Marist leading 13-8 at the 14:12 mark, Kemp went to the bench with his second foul. Saint Peter’s responded by going on a 20-5 run over the next 11:27, and the Peacocks led 30-24 at halftime.

Saint Peter’s never trailed in the second half. The Peacocks’ largest lead after halftime was nine at the 9:13 mark. The Red Foxes had the opportunity to rally late due to holding the Peacocks to just two points and no field goals in the final 3:04.

Marist committed a season-low seven turnovers. However, the Red Foxes were outrebounded 38-26, were outscored on second-chance points 16-7, and went just 8-for-18 from the free-throw line.

Marist is now 11-16 overall and 8-9 in the MAAC; Saint Peter's is 10-16 overall and 6-11 in conference play. The Red Foxes return to action on Sunday, when they host Iona at McCann Arena at 2 p.m. The contest will be carried on ESPN3 through the Red Fox Network’s production.
