BEND, Ore. – Marist found representation at the USATF National Club Cross Country Championships last Saturday, as three alumni from the men’s cross country team competed in the event for their respective club teams.
Will Griffin (’12), Adam Vess (’11), and Nick Webster (’11) participated in the 10,000 meter course hosted at the River’s Edge Golf Course. More than 100 teams and 1,200 runners competed in the championships.
"It's great to see our alumni runners still chasing their goals, and doing it on a national stage,” Track & field and cross country Head Coach Peter Colaizzo said. “We are proud of all they have accomplished."
Griffin, competing for the Garden State Track Club placed 119th overall with a time of 33:59. He placed third for his club team, which also placed 19th out of 50 teams in the field. In his time as a Red Fox, Griffin earned IC4A All-East honors twice (2011, 2009), while being named to the All-MAAC team in 2011 and currently holds multiple records in both indoor and outdoor track.
Competing for Team Run Flagstaff, Vess claimed 122nd overall, just one tick behind Griffin in 34:00. He was the sixth man on his team to finish, as they took third place overall in the competition. In his time at Marist, Vess competed in both cross country and track & field, competing as a distance runner. Vess still currently holds multiple records for Marist in both indoor and outdoor track.
Webster, competing for the Albany Running Exchange (ARE), was 257th overall, finishing in 36:05. There were only three ARE runners in the race, so they did not factor into the scoring.
