POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y.  - The Marist men's basketball team closed its regular season with a wire-to-wire Senior Day home victory over Fairfield by a score of 73-60. A fast start and strong shooting percentages in both halves led the Red Foxes (10-20, 6-12 MAAC) to the win against the Stags (17-14, 9-9 MAAC).

On a day in which Marist honored its three graduating seniors Devin Price (Inglewood, Calif.), Dorvell Carter (Bronx, N.Y.) and Jesse Martin (Columbia, Md.) it was two juniors and a sophomore, who took the offensive reigns. Sophomore Chavaughn Lewis (Queens, N.Y.) led the Red Foxes with 24 points, his 11th game this season with 20+ points. Junior center Adam Kemp (Sherrill, N.Y.) notched his 10th double-double of the year with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Junior Jay Bowie (Tampa, Fla.) rounded out the leading Red Fox scorers with 14 points on five-of-six shooting from the floor.

Led onto the floor by the senior trio of Price, Carter and Martin, the Red Foxes jumped out to a quick six point lead at 9-3 less than five minutes into the game. All three players aided in the speedy break out on the scoreboard, as Price hit Lewis on the fast break for a rim-shaking dunk, Carter hit a jumper from the paint and Martin played tight man-to-man defense on All-MAAC Preseason First Teamer Derek Needham.

Marist would extend its lead to eight points at 15-7 two minutes later after Carter converted a traditional three-point play via the "and one."

After Fairfield cut its deficit down to three at 18-15 at 9:24, the Red Foxes would respond with a 16-4 run from 9:03 to 3:34 to go up 34-19. Bowie was the leading producer for Marist during this run as he netted seven points on three-for-three shooting, including a trey from the corner.

A 9-0 run by the Stags made it a 34-28 game at the break.

In the second half, the Red Foxes immediately recreated the early momentum of the first period with a 6-0 run to extend their lead out to 12 points at 40-28.

Marist would continue to hold its lead, though twice the margin dropped as low as three at 11:21 and 9:39.

With the score 51-48, the Red Foxes would push their lead into double-digits with a 9-0 run. Bowie capped the run with his second three-pointer of the afternoon.

Up 12 at 60-48, Marist held the Stags at length by double-digits with all but 27 seconds of the final 8:29 of the game.

With the game in hand, Head Coach Chuck Martin subbed off both Devin Price and Dorvell Carter in the final minute to a standing ovation from the home fans at McCann Arena.

Marist would earn its 10th victory of the regular season with a 73-60 final score.

For the game, the Red Foxes outshot Fairfield 53.7 percent (22-41) to 38.5 (20-52) from the field and 38.5 percent (5-13) to 31.6 from three-point range.

The Red Foxes will begin post-season play on Friday, March 8 with a matchup versus ninth-seeded Siena in the opening round of the 2013 MAAC Tournament. The game which will be played at the MassMutual Center in Springfield, Mass. is slated to begin at 7:30 p.m.
