Marist’s Anthony Calcagni Named To Preseason Watch List

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - Rising senior tight end Anthony Calcagni (Thornwood, N.Y.) of the Marist football team has been named to the College Football Performance Awards (CFPA) Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) Tight End Award Watch List for the 2012 season.

Calcagni is coming off a 2011 season in which he was named First Team All-Pioneer Football League (PFL).  In his first year as the Red Foxes' starting tight end, he tied for the team lead with five touchdowns, and ranked second on the team in both receptions and receiving yards with 40 and 494, respectively.

In Marist's 28-10 win at Butler on Oct. 22, Calcagni had a career-high 130 receiving yards on five receptions with a touchdown. The following week, he was named Beyond Sports Network (BSN) Offensive Player of the Week and CFPA FCS National Tight End Performer of the Week. He also earned a CFPA honor following his five catches for 79 yards at Dayton on Sept. 17.

The Marist football team will open its 2012 season on Saturday, Sept. 1 at Bryant. The Red Foxes will open their five-game home schedule on Saturday, Sept. 8 against Bucknell. The team is in its fourth season as a member of the PFL, and will open league play on Saturday, Sept. 22 against Davidson, which will take place on Alumni Weekend.
