TEMPE, Arizona – The Marist water polo team wrapped up its final non-conference tournament with a 19-1 loss to the #2 Stanford University Cardinal. With the loss, the Red Foxes stand at 7-10 on the season.

Senior co-captain Amanda Amorosa scored the lone goal for Marist, finishing with one goal and one steal and senior Nastassia McGlothlin finished with one assist, one drawn ejection and one steal.

Junior Jessica Hermosillo played the first half for Marist and finished with 13 goals against and one save. Freshman Carsen Horvatich played the second half and finished with six goals against and one steal.

The Cardinal came out strong in the first quarter scoring eight unanswered goals in the opening eight minutes.

The second quarter was much like the first, with Stanford scoring five more goals to head into halftime with a 13-0 lead. Marist was able to generate some offense but were unable to find the back of the net, hitting several posts instead.

The Cardinal opened the second half with the same momentum as in the first, scoring another goal just 1:40 into the third quarter and scoring another three goals before Amorosa got the Red Foxes on the board with a goal at the 2:24 mark with an assist from McGlothlin. The score remained the same for the remainder of the quarter and with eight minutes remaining it was 16-1 Stanford.

In the final quarter, the Marist defense stepped up for its best quarter, holding the Cardinal to just three goals and when the final horn sounded, Stanford emerged victorious 19-1.

Up next, Marist travels to California for a scrimmage against Whittier College on Monday and its final non-conference game of the year at Cal State Northridge on Tuesday (6 PM).
