ANNAPOLIS, Maryland – The Marist men’s swimming and diving team placed eighth at the 2017 Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships, which ended March 5. With 275 points the Red Foxes finished 10 points ahead of Penn to take the no. 8 spot in the field of 21 teams. Meet host Navy took the top spot with 532 points.

The men registered many top 10 finishes on the final day of the meet, which consisted of all swimming events. Junior Robert McDowell finished eighth in the 200-yard backstroke (1:53.03) and classmate Sam Presgraves clocked in at 2:03.11 in the 200-yard breaststroke for seventh place.

Freshman Michael O’Donovan went the distance and set a new personal best in the 1,650-yard freestyle. He placed sixth with a time of 15:40.03.  

Marist’s 400-yard freestyle relay squad of senior Manuel Garcia, sophomore Mark Miller, sophomore Edward Oser and sophomore Miguel Madeira took sixth place, touching in 3:04.91 to conclude the meet.

Junior Peter Gallino will represent the Marist men’s diving program at the NCAA Championships on March 6 and 7 in Christianburg, Virginia. He was selected the Men’s Diver of the Meet at the ECAC Championships after winning the 1- and 3-meter boards.
