BUFFALO, New York – With 635 points over four days, the Marist men’s swimming and diving team came in second place at the conclusion of the 2017 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championships on Feb. 11. Rider was the top team with 840.5 points.

Senior Manuel Garcia capped his MAAC career with another silver medal, which came in the 200-yard butterfly. His time of 1:52.03 nipped the third place finisher by .01 second and sophomore Michael Valceanu wasn’t far behind in fourth place at 1:52.06. Sophomore Daniel Knoll was another medalist for Marist, earning bronze in the 100-yard freestyle (45.94 seconds).

The 400-yard freestyle relay team of Knoll, Valceanu, sophomore Gregory Violette and sophomore Miguel Madeira placed second to end the meet after they touched in 3:03.46.

Freshman Raislan Aiken was named the Men’s Diving Rookie of the Meet. He placed fourth on the 1-meter board on the opening night of the meet (279.55 points) and sixth at three meters (247.30 points) on Feb. 10.

Marist will compete at the 2017 Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships from March 3-5 in Annapolis, Maryland.

PRELIMINARIES

Junior captain Robert McDowell was the top qualifier in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:50.96. Knoll and Madeira both made the cut in the 100-yard freestyle. The Red Foxes had the most competitors make the 200-yard butterfly, as Valceanu and Garcia were second and fourth respectively. Sophomores Michael Presta and Ross Lippe rounded out the group.
