BUFFALO, New York – The Marist women's swimming and diving team maintained its first place ranking on Day Three of the 2017 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championships on Feb. 12, raising its total to 532 points.

Junior Georgia Goldman earned her third medal of the week when she took first place in the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 56.99 seconds. She also led off for Marist's second place 400-yard freestyle relay team that clocked in at 3:55.15. Senior Taylor Deubel, freshman Jessica Miller and senior Meredith Wurtz swam the next three legs of the race.  

Individually, Miller took silver in the 100-yard butterfly (57.48 seconds) and Wurtz was second in the 200-yard freestyle (1:53.28). Junior Sara Nestrowitz defended her MAAC title in the 1,000-yard freestyle when she touched in 10:17.38. Juniors Melanie Newton, Shannon Gordon and Deirdre Connor were also in the top five in the event, which was the first of the finals session.    

Senior Breann Lydon also appeared high on the podium, coming in second place in the 400-yard IM (4:35.45).

PRELIMINARIES

Miller stole the show for Marist during the Day Three event preliminaries by being the top qualifier in the 100-yard butterfly (57.29 seconds). She was also one of four Red Foxes to earn a spot in the finals of the 200-yard freestyle. Goldman tied with Canisius sophomore Cassie Brousseau for the second place time in the 100-yard backstroke. Both swimmers clocked in at 58.29 seconds.

Lydon had Marist’s quickest time in yet another individual medley, touching in 4:38.35 at 400 yards. Freshman Isabella Biagioli also had a strong day, coming in fifth in the 200-yard freestyle and 100-yard backstroke.
