BUFFALO, New York - The Marist men’s 200-yard freestyle relay team broke a three-year old school record in the final event of Day Two of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championships on Feb. 9. The Red Foxes are in second place with 201 points, which is 52 behind first place Rider.

Sophomore Daniel Knoll, sophomore Miguel Madeira, junior Robert McDowell and sophomore Gregory Violette clocked in at 1:22.46 for second place. The former record had been held by the foursome of Spencer Kelley, Caleb Camp, Alexander Lombardi and John Spitzer.

Individually, Madeira led a 1-2 Marist finish in the 500-yard freestyle, completing the race in 4:27.64. Freshman Michael O’Donovan took the silver medal in 4:31.06. Knoll took third place in the 50-yard freestyle (20.86 seconds).

The Red Foxes will be back in action at 10 a.m. tomorrow for preliminaries in the 400-yard IM to begin Day Three. Follow live results from the MAAC or through the Meet Mobile app.

PRELIMINARIES

In the first event of the morning, the 500-yard freestyle, Madeira blew past the rest of the field with a time of 4:30.58. O’Donovan wasn’t too far behind, posting the third fastest time of 4:33.56.

At the shorter distance Knoll took second place in the 50-yard event (20.84 seconds) after touching just .56 seconds shy of the top finisher. Violette earned the final spot in the 50-yard freestyle final after he tied with Bryant senior Boris Paraliticci. Both had times of 21.40 seconds.

Sophomore Mark Miller earned a spot in the MAAC final in the 200-yard IM for the first time in his career after clocking in at 1:52.88.
