POUGHKEEPSIE, New York- The Marist men’s basketball team fell 73-53 at home in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference contest against the Fairfield Stags on Thursday night.

With the loss the Red Foxes drop to 6-19 (3-11 MAAC), while Fairfield moves to 12-11 (7-7 MAAC).

Sophomore guard Brian Parker led the scoring for Marist, totaling 17 points, on 4-for-6 shooting from the floor. Sophomore forward Ryan Funk also contributed 10 points and grabbed five rebounds.

The Red Foxes shot 17-for-58 (.293) from the floor, 6-for-26 (.231) from three point range and 13-for-14 .929 from the charity stripe. The Stags shot 28-for-54 (.519) from the floor, 10-for-19 (.526) from behind the arc and 7-for-13 (.538) from the free throw line. Fairfield outrebounded Marist 39-31 and held an 18-6 advantage in assists.

The Red Foxes and Stags looked to score from the outside in the early going, but both teams were not able to establish a rhythm. Early turnovers by Fairfield allowed the Red Foxes to get extra opportunities and generate points. Funk provided a first-half highlight with a baseline dunk to put the Red Foxes up by two points with seven minutes left in the half.

Inside scoring allowed the Stags to end the first half with a 27-19 lead. Marist was able to force six turnovers in the half, and turned them into eight points. In the first half, Parker led all Marist scorers with five points, while senior center Kentrall Brooks added four rebounds and one block. Fairfield was led in scoring by forward Amadou Sidibe who contributed 13 points.

The Stags extended their lead to start the second half, but outside shooting by Funk kept Marist in the game. A 10-point run by Fairfield put them up by 19 with 11 minutes to go. The lead proved to be enough with the Stags converting eight of their 13 three-point attempts and shooting .667 overall from the field in the second half to take home the 73-53 victory.

Sidibe had game highs of 19 points and 14 rebounds in 32 minutes for the Stags.

Up next, the Red Foxes face rival Siena at home for the first matchup between the two teams this season. Tip off is scheduled for 7 p.m. Tickets are available on
