POUGHKEEPSIE, New York - Coming down to the final relay, the Marist men’s swimming and diving team edged Binghamton 156-144 in the 2016-17 regular season finale on Jan. 28. The Red Foxes finished 7-3 overall with a 4-1 mark against Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference teams. 

In the final home meet of his career, senior Manuel Garcia touched first in the 100-yard butterfly (51.66 seconds) and led a 1-2 finish in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 1:55.60. Sophomore Michael Valceanu followed in second place at 200 yards. Garcia took second place in the 200-yard individual medley (1:58.47) and swam the third leg on Marist’s first place 200-yard medley relay squad that opened the meet with a time of 1:36.31.

Freshman Evan Nilsson nailed down two victories at the dual meet. He won the 200-yard backstroke (1:54.96) and his first place time of 9:43.07 in the 1,000-yard freestyle was two seconds off a season best. Sophomore Miguel Madeira contributed relay and individual wins, placing first in the 200- (1:43.01) and 500-yard freestyle (4:43.60). He anchored Marist’s first place all sophomore 400-yard freestyle relay foursome that clinched the Red Foxes' win in 3:09.40.

Junior Peter Gallino won the 3-meter dive with 285.07 points and came in second place at one meter (285.15 points) by less than a point. Freshman Raislan Aiken finished third on both boards.  

The Red Foxes will compete at the 2017 MAAC Championships from Feb. 8-11 in Buffalo, New York. Tickets for all sessions are available here.
