POUGHKEEPSIE, New York - The Marist women’s swimming and diving team took down Binghamton 165-135 in its 2016-17 regular season finale on Jan. 28 in McCann Natatorium. The Red Foxes ended 7-3 overall, including 5-0 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference competition.

Competing in her final home meet, senior Meredith Wurtz took the top spot in three events. She won the 50-yard freestyle in 24.35 seconds, then came right back to earn first place in the 100-yard event with a time of 53.36 seconds. Wurtz also clocked in at the fastest time at 200 yards (1:57.64). Classmate Sarah Mosca raced in both butterfly events, placing third at 200 yards (2:12.55).       

Junior Sara Nestrowitz helped cement the Marist win with wins in the 500- (5:16.64) and 1,000-yard freestyle (10:41.39). She earned four points for the Red Foxes with a second place finish at 200 yards. In another individual win, junior Margaux Purvis was the fastest swimmer in the 200-yard backstroke (2:10.56).

On the 1- and 3-meter diving boards junior Megan Berardelli, sophomore Lauren Katz and sophomore Grace Casolo went 1-2-3. Berardelli won with scores of 278.25 points and 292.27 points at one and three meters respectively. Katz racked up 222.90 points and 256.50 points in her second place finishes, while Casolo tallied 197.62 points and 193.12 points respectively. 

The Red Foxes will compete at the 2017 MAAC Championships from Feb. 8-11 in Buffalo, New York. Tickets for all sessions are available here
