Marist Volleyball Earns AVCA Team Academic Award

LEXINGTON, Kentucky -- The Marist volleyball team was awarded the 2015-16 American Volleyball Coaches Association Team Academic Award, the AVCA announced on Monday. This is the tenth consecutive year the program has earned the distinction.

The award, which was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale.

"We are very proud to see our team recognized by the AVCA for the tenth straight year" said head coach Lauren Amundson. "To perform consistently above the 3.3 level as a team in a rigorous academic environment, with a cross-section of challenging majors, is a worthy accomplishment. This not only speaks volumes about the level of commitment from our players and their work ethic on and off the court, but also the dedication of our faculty and staff who serve as invaluable resources to our student-athletes. A special thanks to Alyssa Gates, our Center for Student-Athlete Enhancement and our faculty mentor Carla Hill."

The Red Foxes finished the 2015 season 21-10 (13-5 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference) and made it all the way to the MAAC Championship game.
