Marist's Vuono Earns Second Academic All-District Honor

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – Recent Marist graduate Mark Vuono, a member of the cross country/track & field teams for the last four years, has been named CoSIDA Academic All-District for the second consecutive year.

“Mark was the ultimate team player,” Marist Director of Cross Country/Track & Field Pete Colaizzo said. “If I needed a relay leg, ne never said no. He ran it, and he ran it really well. In an individual sport, having a team player like that is worth its weight in gold. He's the ultimate student athlete. He handles everything with grace.”

In all four years of his career, Vuono scored in the distance medley relay at the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships. Vuono and teammate Nestor Taylor earned the Coaches' Award for this year's indoor track & field season.

Vuono has also been a standout in the classroom. He earned the President's Academic Achievement Award at this year's Senior Awards Banquet for having the highest grade-point average of any graduating male student-athlete. Vuono completed the Honors Program at Marist, and was presented with the Award for Academic Excellence in Accounting by Marist's School of Management at the College's Baccalaureate Ceremony. He is three-year member of the MAAC All-Academic Team.

Vuono will begin full-time employment at KPMG this summer, and is scheduled to compete in the Chicago Marathon in October.

Vuono is the fourth Marist student-athlete to earn Academic All-District honors this season, following Ed Achziger (football), Gabrielle Kelliher (softball), and Kyrsten Van Natta (softball).
