POUGHKEEPSIE, New York - Behind strong play from its offensive, defensive and special teams units, the Marist football team won its fourth straight game on Saturday. The Red Foxes defeated Stetson in a Pioneer Football League game by a score of 49-14 at Tenney Stadium.

Marist scored a season high in points. Sophomore quarterback Michael White accounted for five touchdowns, with three passing and two rushing. Fifth-year senior wide receiver Matt Tralli tied a single-game program record with three touchdown receptions.

Defensively, Marist had eight sacks (three by fifth-year senior safety Alex Spiess), three turnovers forced, 16 tackles for loss and five pass break-ups. On special teams, sophomore Lawrence Dickens had a 100-yard kickoff return for a touchdown in the second quarter. The Red Foxes also received a blocked punt from junior Cameron Gibson, and a blocked field goal from fifth-year senior Nicholas Foster.

For the second straight week, Marist was able to start quickly, as the Red Foxes scored touchdowns on their first four drives. The Red Foxes' first play from scrimmage was a 32-yard completion from White to Tralli, and White's nine-yard touchdown run four plays later was the first score of the game at the 10:43 mark.

On the ensuing drive, Stetson quarterback Ryan Tentler scored on a 10-yard touchdown run, which enabled the Hatters to tie the score with 9:16 left in the first period. Marist took the lead for good on its next drive on White's three-yard touchdown run, which was set up by a 45-yard touchdown from White to freshman Juston Christian.

Stetson's next drive was a three-and-out, and Gibson's blocked punt set Marist up at the Stetson 19. After a false start, White and Tralli connected on a 24-yard touchdown pass, which put Marist up 21-7. A six-yard touchdown pass from White to Tralli on the first play of the second quarter gave the Red Foxes a three-touchdown advantage.

A 12-play, 89-yard drive for Stetson, which ended in a one-yard Cole Mazza touchdown run, cut the Hatters' deficit to 28-14 with 1:56 left in the first half. However, Marist answered as Dickens went coast-to-coast on the ensuing kickoff, which enabled Marist to take a 35-14 halftime lead.

White and Tralli connected for their third touchdown of the day, a 21-yard strike, with 8:16 left in the quarter. Marist closed out the scoring with 3:16 remaining on a 15-yard run by Leon Cummings, which was the first touchdown of Cummings' career.

White, who did not play the final 23 minutes, finished 13-for-18 through the air for 234 yards and three touchdowns. He also led Marist with 50 yards on the ground, which came on five carries with two touchdowns. Tralli had a team-high 83 yards receiving on four receptions.

Defensively, fifth-year senior linebacker Miguel Sandoval had a team-high nine tackles, including one for a loss of yardage. Spiess' three sacks and tackles for loss were a team high, and he added a forced fumble that was recovered by senior linebacker Jesse Mainiero. Senior cornerback Zachary Quarles and junior linebacker Jimmy Braun had interceptions. Gibson broke up two passes.

Marist is now 5-4 overall and 4-2 in the PFL. Stetson is 2-7 overall and 1-6 in league play.

Marist returns to action on Saturday, Nov. 14 at Dayton, which is 9-0 overall and 6-0 in PFL play.
