POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The Marist baseball team (25-21-1 overall, 15-6 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference) will face Rider (33-18, 17-4) in a three-game series which will decide the conference regular-season championship. The Red Foxes and Broncs will play a doubleheader on Saturday starting at noon at McCann Field, followed by a single game on Sunday at noon. Prior to Sunday's game, the five members of Marist's senior class will be honored.
Here is a look at how the results of the series will impact seeding for next week's MAAC championships:
- Marist sweep: Marist #1, Rider #2, Canisius #3, Siena #4
- Marist wins one or two games: Rider #1, Marist #2, Canisius #3, Siena #4
- Rider sweep: Rider #1, Canisius #2, Marist #3, Siena #4
Marist is playing its first home game since April 16, with the Red Foxes having played their last 12 games away from McCann Field. Senior shortstop Zach Shank leads the Red Foxes in batting average (.397), runs scored (49) and home runs (three), while senior first baseman Mike Orefice has a team-high 47 RBIs. For Rider, Jerry Mulderig is hitting a team-high .347 to go along with two homers, 29 RBIs and 16 stolen bases. Nick Crescenzo has team highs in RBIs (32) and stolen bases (18).
