Marist Athletics To Host Pink Games At Women's Lacrosse, Softball This Weekend

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Marist College Athletics Department will partner with the Miles of Hope Breast Cancer Foundation for a pair of pink games this weekend. The women's lacrosse team will host Bucknell on Saturday, April 20, at 4 p.m. at Tenney Stadium at Leonidoff Field, and the softball team will host Rider on Sunday, April 21, at noon at the Softball Park at Gartland Field. Miles of Hope will have merchandise tables at both games and all proceeds from the contests will benefit the Hudson River Valley-based non-profit organization.

Breast Cancer survivors will be honored at halftime of the women's lacrosse game, while a ceremony will be held between the softball contests. Survivors who wish to be recognized should send an email to redfoxes@marist.edu, and provide their name, which game they will be attending and the anniversary they are celebrating as a breast cancer survivor.

"Marist goes out of their way to recognize breast cancer survivors and Miles of Hope with their athletic contests," said Pari Forood, Executive Director of Miles of Hope. "We work with the athletic department on the Play4Kay game with women's basketball in February, women's soccer in the fall and now women's lacrosse and softball in the spring. Our mission is to advocate preventive technologies, nutrition and exercise as proactive ways to reduce the incidence of breast cancer, so, associating ourselves with women's sports makes sense on many different levels. We are indebted to Marist for their commitment and community spirit."

The women's lacrosse team will also celebrate Senior Day prior to the 4 p.m. opening draw. It will cap a Marist lacrosse doubleheader, as the men take on archrival Siena at 1 p.m. at Tenney Stadium at Leonidoff Field.

About Miles of Hope

The Miles of Hope Breast Cancer Foundation was established to fund support services for people fighting breast cancer in the Hudson Valley. The Foundation was started by Dana Effron and Cathy Varunok, two community activists who saw a need for increased services for people with breast cancer. For years, Dana and Cathy raised money for national breast cancer organizations but in 2004, they decided to focus their fundraising efforts on helping their friends and neighbors in the eight counties of the Hudson Valley, New York.
