Larson Sets A Pair Of Assist Records As Women's Lacrosse Routs Manhattan 22-8

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – Tierney Larson (Fairfield, Conn.) set the single-season and single-game assist record on Wednesday as the Marist women's lacrosse team routed Manhattan 22-8 in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) game at Tenney Stadium. It is the third time in the past six games that the Red Foxes have scored at least 20 goals.

Larson assisted on seven goals on Wednesday, beating the previous single game record of six assists. She came into the game tied with 33 assists on the year, tied with Lindsey Diener, who set the record in 2008. Larson now has 40 assists this year with three regular season games left. She also added a goal for a total of eight points on the day.

Kirsten Viscount (Smithtown, N.Y.) tied a career with five goals and Ashley Miller (Montville, N.J.) also had five points on three goals and two assists. Jamie Romano (Kings Park, N.Y.) scored two goals and assisted on two others and Sabrina Mattera (Wantagh, N.Y.) had two goals and an assist. Lexi Brannigan (Loudonville, N.Y.), Jackie DiMaria (Dix Hills, N.Y.), and Erin Schroeder (Vero Beach, Fla.) all had two goals. Ashley Casiano (South Windsor, Conn.) got the win for the Red Foxes, making six saves. Liz Holmes (Longmeadow, Mass.) made three saves, playing the final 21 minutes.

Manhattan got on the board first, scoring just 49 seconds into the game. Marist (6-8, 3-1 MAAC) scored the next four goals, in a 3:11 span to take a 4-1 lead, an advantage they would not relinquish. Larson scored her only goal at the 28:21 mark, on an assist from Romano, to tie the score at one. Miller scored from Romano to give the Red Foxes the lead and Romano scored her first of the game to bring the score to 3-1 with 25:42 left in the first half. Just 32 seconds later Amanda Tuck (Mamaroneck, N.Y.) scored on the record-setting assist from Larson to bring the score to 4-1.

Following another Jaspers (3-10, 0-3 MAAC) goal, Marist rattled off another five consecutive goals to bring the lead to 9-2 with 9:09 left in the opening half. Viscount scored three of her goals in the stretch and Brannigan and Miller each added one. Larson assisted on three of the goals.

Goals by Allison Gionta (Eastport, N.Y.), Brannigan and DiMaria extended the Red Foxes' lead to 12-4 at halftime.

Romano traded goals with Manhattan to start the second half before Marist scored six straight to blow the game wide open at 19-5 with 12:17 left in the game. Viscount and Mattera each scored twice and Miller and Dimaria added another.

The Red Foxes will take this weekend off before hosting Iona next Wednesday in a 4 p.m. game at Tenney Stadium.
