WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Marist men's tennis team concluded its spring break drip to the nation's capital with a 6-1 setback to Georgetown of the Big East.
“I thought we competed very well in first and second doubles and second and third singles with both matches being played very tight,” head coach Tim Smith said. “I was very pleased with the play of Dalen and Billy at first doubles.”
Will Reznek (Toronto, Canada) got the lone point for the Red Foxes (5-2), defeating his singles' opponent at the third position 7-5, 6-1.
Billy Bishop (Houston, Texas) and Dalen Klassen (St. Louis, Mo.) came away with a good 8-5 win at first doubles.
The Norwegian duo of Trym Nagelstad (Oslo, Norway) and Fredrik Bjerke (Oslo, Norway) played a tough match at second doubles', pushing their opponents to the limit before falling by an 8-6 score.
Klassen had a good battle at second singles, dropping the first set 6-2 before taking the second 6-3. He fell in a tough third-set tiebreaker 10-4.
Nagelstad also almost made a comeback at fifth singles. He dropped the first set 6-0 before forcing a tiebreaker in the second set before falling 7-6 (5).
Marist opens Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play next week when they travel to Fairfield for a 3 p.m. match on Wednesday. It is a rematch of the 2012 MAAC Championship match, which the Stags took 4-3.
