Women's Swimming & Diving Takes Third Place At 2013 ECAC Championships

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The Marist women's swimming and diving team finished the 2013 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championships with 387 points and in third place. Hosted by Harvard University, the Red Foxes were led on the third day by a school record breaking performance by senior Kate Conard (East Setauket, N.Y.) in the 200-yd backstroke.

Racing in the final individual race of her collegiate career, Conard swam to a scorching 2:00.74 time. Though fourth overall in the Championship Final, she broke the school record, previously held by Allison Kreho by 0.88 seconds. Freshman Bethany Powhida (Delmar, N.Y.) joined Conard in backstroke finals action as she finished seventh in the B Final for 15th overall with a time of 2:05.17.

Junior Maddie Arciello (Missoula, Mont.) was the highest finishing Red Fox on Sunday as she swam to a third place in the 100-yd freestyle race with a time of 51.89.

Three Red Foxes earned top 12 finishes in the 1650-yd led by sophomore Shannon Toal's (Rye Brook, N.Y.) sixth at 17:35.58. Junior Kim Kaller (New Providence, N.J.) and freshman Alexandria Koukos (Cheshire, Conn.) finished eighth and 12th overall with times of 17:39.76 and 17:49.45, respectively.

In breaststroke action, senior Katie Larkin (Huntington, N.Y.) earned a sixth place result with a 2:22.62 time.

Fellow senior Erica Vitale (Sterling, Conn.) competed in the B-Finals of the 200-yd butterfly and finished 16th overall with a time of 2:08.03.

At the conclusion of the meet, sophomore Kimberly Tobias (San Jose, Calif.) was honored as the ECAC Diver of the Meet in recognition of her 3-meter title and third place finish in the 1-meter.

With their third place finish, the swimming portion of the Red Foxes' season is now complete. The divers will finish their season at the NCAA Zone A Qualifying meet hosted at Virginia Tech beginning on Friday, March 15.
