LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. - The Marist men's cross country team finished second at Saturday's Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championships, held at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. Two Red Foxes - senior Arquimedes DelaCruz (Wantagh, N.Y.) and junior Ken Walshak (Babylon, N.Y.) - were named All-MAAC by virtue of finishing 10th and 12th, respectively.
DelaCruz earned All-MAAC honors for the fourth straight year, becoming the third runner in program history, following Girma Segni and Will Griffin, to be named All-MAAC four times.
Marist placed second for the eighth consecutive year. Iona, which entered this week ranked fourth nationally, won the conference championship for the 22nd straight year with a total of 16 points. The Red Foxes earned a total of 80 points to finish just ahead of Rider, which totaled 83.
DelaCruz completed the 8K course in 24:57.92, and Walshak came in at 25:11.78. The remaining three Red Foxes who earned scoring positions were freshman Ryan Colabella (Hauppauge, N.Y.), senior Joel Moss (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) and junior Nick Salek (Morris Plains, N.J.).
Marist has placed second at the MAAC Championships in 1998, 2003 and every year from 2005 through 2012.
