BOSTON, MASS. - The Marist College men's crew team competed at the esteemed Head of the Charles Regatta this past weekend in Boston, racing in the Collegiate Eights event consisting of some of the best crew program in the country.
The Varsity Eight boat, consisting of Cameron Schuh, Doug Woolley, Matt Klos, Chris Behnke, Max Kenny, Seaton Drebitkpo, Jacob Enright, Conor Wiggins and coxswain Chris Leonard, placed 17th out of 37 boats in their race, finishing with a time of 16:28.918.
"Our crew put together a good race in tough conditions and on a tough course," men's Head Coach Matt Lavin said. "We raced hard but ultimately fell a bit short of our goals for the Charles. We learned a lot about ourselves as a crew and I am excited to see what we can do at the Head of the Fish against high-quality competition this Saturday in Saratoga Springs."
Additionally, several Marist alum took part in the weekend's festivities. Tory Mather (class of 2012) raced in the Women's Lightweight Fours 16-boat race, finishing second with a time of 19:22.940 for her club team, Vesper Boat Club. Sean Clarke (class of 2004), who led the Red Foxes to five Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) championships as the program's head coach from 2007-2012, competed in the Men's Championship Doubles for his club squad, Sunrise Training Systems, finishing 10th out of 21 boats. Brendan Mulvey (class of 2009) raced unaffiliated in the Men's Lightweight Singles, finishing 25th out of 30 boats.
Both Marist men's and women's crew programs will take to the water next weekend at the Head of the Fish Regatta in Saratoga Springs.
