EDISON, N.J. - In the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference's weekly awards announcement, sophomore goalkeeper Andrea Wicks (East Northport, N.Y.) was named the conference's Defensive Player of the Week. She earned the honor, the first of her career, in recognition of her play this past weekend versus Canisius and Niagara.
Wicks had a strong opening weekend of conference play for the Red Foxes as she backstopped back-to-back road wins for Marist. On Friday night at Canisius, she shutout the Golden Griffins with five saves. She preserved the 1-0 margin with her final save of the game in the 83rd minute. On Sunday afternoon, Wicks posted another strong outing as she held Niagara to one goal. In the Red Foxes' 3-1 win, she made four saves. For the week, Wicks posted a 0.50 goals against average and a .900 save percentage.
This is Marist's third MAAC weekly award of 2012 as Chelsea Botta (East Longmeadow, Mass.) and Caitlin Landsman (Burke, Va.) earned accolades earlier in the season.
The Red Foxes will continue its early MAAC play with a home contest versus Siena on Saturday. Kickoff for the matchup is slated for 7 p.m.
