Marist Football Earns More Awards Following Win In PFL Opener

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - Following a 34-21 win over Davidson in its Pioneer Football League (PFL) opener on Saturday, which included 550 yards of total offense, the Marist football team has earned more accolades.

Senior wide receiver Michael Rios (Miami, Fla.), who was named PFL Offensive Player of the Week on Sunday, was named College Sports Madness PFL Offensive Player of the Week as well. Rios also earned a College Football Performance Award. In Saturday's contest, Rios set a program record with 244 yards receiving in the game, and tied a program record with three touchdown receptions. He finished the day with eight catches.

Rios was one of three Red Foxes to earn College Football Performance Awards on the offensive side of the ball, as he was joined by junior quarterback Chuckie Looney (Ocala, Fla.) and senior tight end Anthony Calcagni (Thornwood, N.Y.).

Looney turned in the second 400-yard passing game in program history against Davidson. He threw for 403 yards and tied a program record with four touchdown passes as he completed 17 of his 26 attempts. Looney threw a touchdown pass in each quarter, with the first going to Calcagni, and the final three going to Rios.

Calcagni finished with five receptions for 91 yards. His 30-yard touchdown reception from Looney in the first quarter was the first score of the game.

The Red Foxes, who added 147 yards rushing in the contest, had their highest yardage total since Oct. 9, 2010, when they also rolled up 550 yards in a 51-7 victory at Valparaiso.

Marist (2-2 overall, 1-0 PFL) will return to action next Saturday with a PFL contest at Jacksonville (3-1, 1-0). Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
