POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Marist Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) welcomed returning and new committee members at its first meeting of the 2012-13 school year on Wednesday, Sept. 12.  The Committee, led by co-presidents Eleni Waskiewicz (women's crew) and Gannon Osborn (men's lacrosse), is comprised of representatives from each of Marist's 23 varsity sports.  Members are selected based on leadership characteristics and the potential to become mentors within their teams and the athletic community.

The mission of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) is to serve as a vehicle to promote communication between the athletic administration and student-athletes at Marist by providing a student-athlete voice within the department, discussing issues and concerns, and providing feedback as necessary. SAAC also serves in a leadership role recruiting fellow student-athletes to serve the campus, Poughkeepsie, and the surrounding area through a variety of community service programs and events.

The Committee will be participating in the Friends of Jaclyn Angel Walk on Sunday, Sept. 30 on the Walkway over the Hudson and will sponsor the CODE RED program at various athletic events throughout the year, designed to bridge athletes and the general student population.  In addition, members will participate in a variety of leadership activities through workshops and speakers as they develop skills whereby they can become even better leaders.

Student-Athletes should seek out team representatives and use them as resource to express ideas or concerns related to Marist athletics.
